The Victim Trap

Updated: Sep 2, 2023

How long do you plan to be the victim? One month, six months, a year, or a lifetime? I know this might be a hard question to answer, but I assure you it's one worth answering. Why? Because the longer you're focused on being a victim, you'll never be the victor. You see, I know all too well the evil that exists in the world. And sometimes that evil visits us with violence, pain, and destruction. It destroys peace, security, confidence, and innocence. You can't control when something bad will happen to you, but what you can control is how you react to it. And how quickly you react to it. The danger is the longer you take to react positively, the longer you will be negatively impacted. It will become your excuse. You’ll say things like, “since this happened to me I can’t” or “I was the victim of this, so now I can’t.” If you aren’t careful, you’ll be a lifelong victim. So how do you get past being a victim? How do you avoid the victim trap? You see, the road to victory starts in your mind. It's a decision you make to not let the bad thing define you. Perhaps the bad thing leaves your body beaten torn and broken. Again, the road to recovery starts in the mind. It starts when you decide you won’t let this one moment in time define you. You won’t let it own you. So, here's what you have to do to go from victim to victor: 1) Accept that the bad thing happened to you; 2) Acknowledge what, if anything, you did that caused the bad thing to happen to you and vow to never do that thing again; 3) Forgive yourself; 4) forgive the person or persons that hurt you; and 5) Pursue Victory. Be relentless in your pursuit! Tell yourself – I will not be defined by this one moment in time! I am not a victim!

Choose success! Pursue Hard Things! Pursue Victory!!
