Roping Elephants

A traveler was passing through a village and came across a group of elephants. He noticed a rope on one foot of each elephant and that the other end of each rope was secured to a small wooden stake. Then, the traveler noticed a massive elephant secured by rope to an empty wooden chair. Each of the elephants stood in place, powerless to do anything, and resembled a bunch of helium filled balloons tied down by a rock. The traveler asked a villager how they were able to keep these massive and powerful animals restrained by just a rope and a stake. The villager explained that when elephants are infants they are secured by the same rope and stake, which is sufficient to restrain them regardless of how hard they fight to break free. This simple early lie gets ingrained deeply in the elephants’ psyche, so much so that as they become incredibly powerful they can easily be retrained by simply placing a rope on one foot and securing it to nothing at all.

Have you told yourself a lie as an excuse for not putting forth the effort to achieve what you want? Have you told others they can’t achieve something they want because of the way they look, the color of their skin, what they don’t have, or because of your own insecurities? Once you convince yourself or someone else of the lie, it becomes the lens through which they see the world. It becomes your excuse. It becomes their excuse.

You can have the success you want! Stop believing the lies! Stop limiting yourself! Stop Roping Elephants! Go Pursue Hard Things!!
