Don't Drink Your Own Kool-Aid!

This was the very first video I created with my own audio and posted to YouTube. I thought it was time to update it with improved audio and a soundtrack.

Don’t Drink your own Kool-Aid! What I mean is this. Sometimes we make excuses for why we haven’t done a certain thing or why it isn’t possible for us to accomplish or achieve a certain goal. Then we tell our friends, who more likely than not will support your excuse and before you know it, you’re drinking your own Kool-Aid. You’ve bought into the idea that you can’t do or achieve something you want, due to no fault of your own of course. The dangerous thing is this - the more you make excuses, the easier it becomes and before you know it you’ve consumed so much Kool-Aid that you are stuck. Stuck believing nothing will ever change for you. Stuck believing this is all I’ll ever be or all I’ll ever have. STOP!!

Here’s a little fact for you: you don’t have to listen to that little voice that’s stirring up the Kool-Aid and you definitely don’t have to drink it. When this happens to me, I literally say “Stop it Shawn” out loud. This allows me to break the negative thought. And then I consider where this thought is coming from. You see we have been conditioned for easy and just when things get hard, our minds start to stir up all the reasons why we shouldn’t do the hard thing or make the hard choice. And you know why that is? Because your mind knows that once you choose to go forward toward the hard thing, you’ll want to continue. Which means you’ll be less likely to choose easy and less likely to drink the Kool-Aid next time around. So, don’t believe the excuses. Don’t drink the Kool aid! Choose success, Pursue Hard Things!!

Before everyone comes for me about my use of the word Kool-Aid. My comments are in no way an attempt to get you to drink or not to drink the actual Kool-Aid brand drink products. Hell, I grew-up on the stuff, so it can’t be all bad. I was also cubby as a child, so you make your own decision about what you drink.

Remember, don’t drink your own Kool-Aid.
